This is my absolute favorite restaurant! Their menu is diverse and it's all amazing. My husband and I are vegetarians and they offer an awesome variety for us besides the usual bean and cheese burrito. The service is always great. Fast on the refills, who doesn't love that? Get their queso dip, you won't regret it!

My husband and I went to dinner there a couple months ago after talking about it for years because we always saw such great reviews. I don't know if it was an off night but the food was just average. We believe in getting pretty authentic food with lots of flavor and this was just ok. We would not drive back.

Excellent atmosphere food very tasty a bit of an issue with the utensils but nothing to take away from the experience. I had the chicken chimi with a taco on the side which was good as I finished it off. Will definitely return.

We went there a few week back (our first time) and it was FANTASTIC. This is Mexican food the way a lot of people probably don't get to experience Mexican food, and it's phenomenal. They use fresh, real ingredients, have many things made in-house, and the flavors they achieve are grand. Top top it off, the value is terrific overall. The atmosphere is cozy, and relatively quiet. Menu: The menu can be overwhelming, but that assures something for everyone. They have almost anything you could want from a Mexican restaurant, including things you may not have seen before. I can say if you order anything with chicken, you'll be thankful you did. They tenderize the meat to a level of thin that I didn't think was possible, and then sear it...I'm salivating thinking about it. They also have a wide variety of other proteins to choose from, including fajitas with three or four different choices. Tortillas are fresh, and service is wonderful. The only detractor, in my opinion, is the salsa. It was ok. Slightly runny for my taste, and lacking flavor, but I've had worse. Again, small peanuts. If you love authentic Mexican food, try this place. For the quality of food, combined with the value, we'll definitely be back.

My favorite Mexican restaurant. Personal service and Mexican like Abuelo made. Good homemade tortillas. Try the shrimp soup. It's great!

The booze, the food, the service - all EXCELLENT! Hands down the best restaurant in Blue Springs.

After a long tiring stressful trip, this place was a welcome rest. Good service, great food and friendly staff. Definitely recommend.

Super sweet waitress but she didn't help the lackluster food. I went for two reasons - Check Please and a Groupon. Real Jalisco definitely the worst mild salsa I have had so far. The main taste was sour. If you like flavor and heat, ask for the hot and mix the two for a nice medium or the hot is good by itself. I ordered the Tampinquena which is my go-to dish. The skirt steak was fatty and didn't have a lot of flavor. The guacamole was just ok. I was really surprised with the dish lacking flavor. It looked good but just tasted meh. As stated, the waitress was incredibly nice and attentive. There is so much a good waitperson can do to overcome the food. Also, once again Check Please led me astray. If I want to travel outside of KC to get overall good service and great food I won't travel to Blue Springs.

This is our favorite Mexican restaurant in the Kansas City area. Ask to try all of their salsas because they have some awesome spicy ones that don't automatically come out with the chips. Also their queso fundido is incredible and their margaritas made fresh and strong and reasonably priced. Our favorite entrees include the tacos callejeros with pork and the steak real Jalisco. We are regulars here now and would recommend it to anyone.

With all the stellar reviews here on Yelp, which makes me wonder if the reviews are stacked, but it made for high expectations! So the reality was ugh, not so wonderful. It makes you think, do people not cook or are they just so used to Taco Bell that anything else wows their socks off? Real Jalisco is clean and service was okay. Chips were so so. Sauce so so. Tamales, tacos and chicken specialities were sampled and disappointed. Just got a tiny dallop of guacamole which tasted like WHOLLY guacamole from grocery store and tiny dallop of sour cream. Beans bland, rice, just bland. I really wanted to like this place but I have to be honest in my reviews. The chicken speciality was unique in that it was flattened out and seared. Unusual. Unfortunately was still hungry when left. LIkes: Using white corn tortillas Dislikes: Just ok.

The service was good and everyone seemed very nice. However the food had no flavor and did not taste fresh. I wish I could give them a higher rating but the food was just that bad.

Perfection every time! Service is always good and the food is amazing. Would put it at five stars if they would add horchata to their beverage service.

Great food, good service. Different types of dishes than normal Mexican restaurants. Love the white cheese for an appetizer and steak or tacos for an entree.

After reading several reviews for Real Jalisco's, a friend and I decided to give it a try. We started with a margarita and piña colada. Both were very good and well presented. We chatted and made our way through a basket of chips and salsa. I'm kind of a salsa snob and this wasn't one of my favorites. I really enjoyed the chunk but the seasoning reminded me more of Prego spaghetti sauce than salsa. Now the salsa verde was really good. If you can handle the heat, go with the verde instead of the "classic" salsa. Once we settled on our dinner choices, they were quickly delivered. She got the 5 tacos and I opted for #20; an enchilada, taco and tamal with beef all around. The enchilada and taco were ok. The beef reminded me of Taco Bell, wet and little tiny smooth consistency. By the time I took a bite of it, the shell was soaked through. I just ate the guts instead of the shell. My tamale was pretty dang good with shredded beef. I loaded it up with the salsa verde and that was the bulk of my meal. I tried a few bites of the fillers of rice and beans. Pretty typical and nothing special. I didn't try her tacos but they looked great! Nice chunks of meat, marinated onions and seasonings. I have to say the wait staff was second to none! Just fabulous from the moment we walked in to the thank you when we left. 5 stars for service.

I had to ask what dish it was I saw on Check Please because I couldn't figure it out from their menu. Still couldn't tell you the name but it was a flattened out grilled chicken breast that was almost red in color. It was very tasty as were the chips and salsa. For almost $12 for that plate you'd expect not to leave hungry. The beans and the rice amounted to about 3 spoonfuls apiece. I had to ask for some flour tortillas to go with it. First time I've ever left a mexican joint still somewhat hungry. I added the third star just because the chicken was so good. Too pricey for too little food. Unsure if I'll ever return.

Awesome food! While it's location (in a strip mall) might lead you to believe otherwise; it is the best Mexican food I have ever eaten! I used to go to Manny's every week or so & now my whole family would prefer to go to Real Jalisco. I always get the same thing 5 corn flour shells w/ grilled chicken, red onions& guacamole. It comes with an amazing green salsa that makes them perfect! I can usually only eat 2 & then I am lucky enough to have ready made lunch / dinner the next day!! The food is very authentic; the food service is quick & the restaurant is clean!

On our road trip west on I 70 we wanted to grab dinner east of KC and let traffic die down before going through. The town of Blue Springs was where we stopped & based on other yelp reviews we choose Real Jalisco. What a great find just a few minutes north of the highway. The shrimp ala diablo appetizer was AWESOME. It was really flavorful and packed the right amount of heat. My wife had the Pollo Carbon & really enjoyed it. I had Pollo Mole & thought it was outstanding. Good margarita & service topped it off.

There seems to be a strong divide between those appreciating standard Americanized Mexican food and the growing number of people wanting more authentic fare. The Blue Springs area boasts many choices for the former, and with Real Jalisco also satisfies the latter. I cannot claim to have sampled the entire menu but have enjoyed all the items that I have. The Steak Mariposa Jalisco (skirt steak with grilled veggies & cheese) is excellent with small sides of rice & soupy beans. All 3 kinds of the street style tacos (5 tacos with beef, pork, or chicken choices) are tasty as well. I appreciate the lightly grilled corn tortillas as opposed to the unheated ones I have gotten with street tacos elsewhere. Chips and salsa are free but unremarkable. Daily drink & food specials are available. I recommend the upper shelf margaritas rather than the cheapo, and they make a pretty good Bloody Mary too. Service is friendly & efficient. The establishment is clean and well kept, tho as mentioned there usually aren't salt & pepper shakers on the table (ask and they'll bring you some). If you want something besides chain style tex-mex I cannot recommend it enough.

You can't beat this place for authentic Mexican food. I have been there many, MANY times and have never been disappointed. I highly suggest the Queso Fundido, Tacos Callejeros or any of their chicken dishes. I'm not a huge steak, pork or shrimp fan but they definitely have dishes that would satisfy any taste. One of the things I really respect is that they have consistently good service and consistently good food. If you're in Eastern Jackson County and have not visited Real Jalisco you're missing out! Heck, it's worth the drive from anywhere in the Metro area!

Took my family here for a late Father's Day gift. The food was great! My husband wasn't as please as I was but he still liked his. I had Shrimp and Cactus and the sauce they used was amazing! I was absolutely pleased! Our waiter was running around crazy because he has so many tables. He did a great job with being so busy but you also felt bad to ask him something because you could tell he needed help and it wasn't his fault.

Do NOT follow directions on yelp!!! They are wrong! That critique aside, once we found the place, we were very pleased. The food was great and well deserving of the wonderful reviews they have already received. The margaritas though, left something to be desired. Would not order those again, but would definitely go back for the food!

We were traveling x-country and did not want a chain experience. Based on the Tripadvisor reviews we stopped here and felt we made a good choice. Except for the watery mediocre salsa served with the chips, the entree food was flavorful, ample and a fine example of Mexican cuisine. I would recommend this place to anyone interested in a casual dining experience on this area

I'm still in outermost shock on what I stumbled across last night! First I'd like to Thank Yelp, I have no idea how I would live my life without you. Secondly, I'd like to thank all those yelpers who took the time to write a review about this gem. Thirdly, I'd like to Thank Real Jalisco for such an amazing dining experience last night. Now that I've proclaimed my love for everyone. Here is my review: You just moved by choice or by force to the Burbs, and despite your bad reception in gods country you've manage to have Yelp show you the way. Your having a bad day and really need a drink, you think ...hmmm, I could even do Tequila today, so you type in Mexican and start driving on highway 7. Soon after, you fly by Real Jalisco and have to turn around, meanwhile you get distracted by another Mexican restaurant who's string lights are sending you subliminally messages to reconsider. You ask yourself, two mexicans restaurants next to each other, funny, I wonder what the difference is? You contain yourself and say no, I must follow the wise advice of my fellow yelpers, and so your adventure begins. You open the reflective doors and internally snicker at your dislike for strip malls and all the aesthetic techniques developers try to use to give blighted venues some pizzazz, but quickly snap your snobbish opinions off and concentrate on what's infront of you. You are quickly greeted by a server who shows you to your seat. You run your personal dining standards checklist; the place is clean, the server is attentive, the patrons are happy, the picture frames are properly aligned. So, you proceed to look at the menu. Oh my! What have we here! This is not tex mex...YESSSSS, FINALLY! So after a couple of minutes of glancing at the menu you realize it's to much to take in, and your just going to play it safe. You ask the waiter what he recommends, he runs down the menu, and you are mesmerized by his description of the chile rellenos. ..........my personal account So the hubby to be and I order some Chile Rellenos, covered in an almond cranberry sauce filled with seasoned steak strips. We also order a classic fajita platter ( to see how the restaurant measures between self cuisine identity and traditional staple plates). However once my chile rellenos came in I had no room or eyes for the fajita platter. Talk about love at first sight. I knew at that precise moment that real Jalisco had created two new regulars. Not to mention we ordered a pitcher of Dos X for 5 bucks, yes you heard correctly, a pitcher of Dos X for $5.00, the hubby to be was even contemplating calling some of his friends over to share his liquid gold. Although I could not eat an entire chile relleno (you get two), I savored every bite and was very excited to have the chance to replay the explosion of flavors with my leftovers. So there you have it, my new discovery, I wish I was Hemingway so I may accurate portray the taste of my night for you, but since I'm not, you are just going to have take the world of two Latin Foodies who are now sold on Real Jalisco. Just goes to show you should never judge a book by his cover, or should I say, never judge a food joint by the strip malls location. =) P.S I never did end up ordering a shot of tequila, the food provided the much needed happy pill I was looking for.

Some of the best Mexican food you can find in the KC Area. Service can be rough at times due to language barriers, but still a fantastic customer experience.

I tend to not review places that don't really need my review. Like many others I use Yelp to find new places and, if my experience matches the existing reviews, I don't feel the need to add mine. Such is the situation with Real Jalisco. This place is wonderful just as the majority of reviews indicate; you will find dishes here that are not only incredibly delicious but are also unique. Therefore, I tend to only review restaurants where my experience doesn't live up to the reviews. I either want to correct the record or balance the high fives that the restaurant simply does not deserve. In practice this resulted in all of my reviews until now being negative. However a few folks on Yelp have asked me to change my ways and not look like such a grouch. I agree; I should be nice when warranted. So, here is my review of Real Jalisco. There is no better Latin food restaurant within hundreds of miles. No, that's not good enough. I've not had better food since my last visit to Guadalajara. Are you familiar with a seasoning called Achiote? Sometimes called Annatto? If not, look it up and then go to Real Jalisco and order their chicken breast with achiote. Savor the warm smokiness, let the taste and aroma delight your senses, then be glad you read this on Yelp. On your next visit order their carne en su jugo. Slow cooked beef strips in salsa verde with cilantro and lime. Tangy, spicy, make you feel warm all over soup. Then come back and get their signature dish: chili rellenos with walnut creme sauce and cranberries. I swear it tastes like a spicy ice cream... After dinner enjoy a small glass of Don Julio Anejo tequila. The fact that Real Jalisco has Don Julio attests to their quality and authenticity. Sip it, slowly...as you know, fine tequila is meant to be enjoyed slowly. Real Jalisco...usted ha encontrado su casa.

While Real Jalisco might not have the quality of bigger places it does provide enough authenticity to call itself Mexican Cuisine. The authentic dishes I have tried and specially the mole were delicious and a worthy introduction to those flavors quite close to what you would get from a home cooked meal. The queso dip is a nice starter, I do find the chips to be a little sub par and hit and miss on freshness. The service is excellent and it has specials that would make for a good sampling of their menu if you just picked a random day. The highlight for me beside the mole would be the "al pastor" pork tacos.

Came in on May 4, and they were crazy busy, so we sat at the little itty bitty bar. Definitely did not miss out on anything, as the bartender took great care of us, answering any questions I had about the menu, the restaurant, and alll the miscellaneous questions I came up with.(I was investigating) The food was great, the only thing I didn't like about this place was that the entertainment was lacking as they don't pay for any sports packages for the tv.

On recommendation from a friend and with a groupon as a bonus, my boyfriend and I headed here last night. Quick summary! Chips & salsa: Chips were good. Salsa was take it or leave it for me, but acceptable. I normally add a little salt to my salsa, and for some reason there was neither salt nor pepper on the table. Perhaps because Real Jalisco bills itself as authentic Mexican? Not a big deal, but as an avid fan of salt, that was a little bit of a downer for me. The meal: I got the Mariposa Jalisco with pork on recommendation from our server. It was marinated and grilled strips of pork topped with a salsa verde of some sort, a little Oaxaca cheese, and a heap of sautéed vegetables. And it was DELICIOUS. Very, very flavorful, which is exactly what I'd been hoping for. Only complaint, the sides of pinto beans & rice were not very flavorful (having access to some aforementioned salt would have helped, I'm sure), but there was enough meat to create an entirely satisfying meal without the beans, and I was able to mix some of the vegetables and whatnot into the rice. The boyfriend got a burrito, which looked pretty Mexican-restaurant-standard. He gave me a bite of the steak inside, and it was tender and flavorful, and he cleaned his plate, so I think it's safe to say it was a good dish. The service: Friendly, but not particularly attentive. We were going to order some white queso but never got the opportunity before our meals came out. Not a big deal, as there was plenty to eat, but a bit of a lost opportunity there. As I said, they were very, very friendly & very polite, so it certainly wasn't a negative experience. Overall, it was a nice experience, but I probably wouldn't make another special trip for it. I'd certainly consider returning if I were in the area, though.

Oh Boy! This place is great. I heard several people say good things about this place so we went for ourselves. I could make a meal just out of the chips and salsa. The chips were warm when they came out each time. ( we had 3 baskets ) I also loved the salsa. It tasted so fresh and I loved that it wasn't too hot. I hate when I can't taste anything from eating hot salsa. Our waiter was awesome and fast. He gave us some of the best selling items so we could narrow down our choices. As soon as we set down he was asking what we wanted to drink. My husband had Taco Jalisco and I had Mariposa Jalisco. Everything about it was good. The only thing I would change was the guacamole. It didn't taste as fresh and it looked a little brown. The staff all seem to work wonderfully as a team. We had different people ask if we needed refills on chips or drinks. It really shows that service is a high priority when everyone is attending to your needs. Even the hostess had a friendly greeting and beautiful smile goodbye for us... I think this place is really great. Adios Taco Bell!! Real Jalisco is my new Mexican favorite!

  • Jess R.

I was truly happy with the food here, I did not expect this authenticity in Blue Springs!!! The only reason I didn't give 5 stars was due to the service, they forgot our menus, silverware, the decor left a lot to be desired (but there were nice folded cloth napkins which I thought was cute) and they didn't bring my margarita until after I was 1/2 way through my meal when it was the first thing I ordered.... Aside from that The experience was fantastic! My mother-in-law and her boyfriend eat here weekly and just rave about it and now I know why! Everything was fresh and flavorful and just a bit different from your typical "Mexican" Restaurants in the mid-west. As a vegetarian I get tired of the old rice and beans menu at most places, but there was a plethora of choices here. I have the vegetable enchiladas and they were great! Fresh spinach, mushrooms, cilantro, red onions and peppers. My hubby had tacos and was a little upset at the amount of onions, but he loved the steak and sauces with it. The chips were a little boring, but the salsa and queso was very good and fresh as well! Totally ask for a sampling of all their salsas because the spicy was way better than the one they brought with the chips (kinda tasted like gazpacho which is good, but not what I want on a tortilla chip) Of course, like most places, we could make most of these items at home, but we liked it enough to come back for sure!

Absolutely Fantastic. I thought Ixtapa in the northland was the best mexican in town. I was wrong. Ixtapa I still like you very, very, much. But Real Jalisco is even better. (If you have eaten Ixtapa, Real Jalisco will 'feel' very similar - many of the same types of menu offerings, similar decor, similar salsa, same great service). This is authentic mexican food. If you have never eaten authentic, please do NOT just look over the menu for something you recognize... ask your server for help. And do not expect anything like you make at home or at any restaurant that drowns your food in melted velveeta. The queso fundido is amazing here (we got it without the chorizo and with tomatillo sauce). There is not a better appetizer to be had.... ANYWHERE! We had 3 different entrees, all excellent... the mariposa jalisco (steak) was perhaps the best. Cannot wait to return to explore more of the menu. Tip: On Tuesday they have $5 pitchers of dos equus amber!

By far the best Mexican restaurant in the city (incl Southwest Blvd area). Authentic made cuisine. Good service. Only negative are the chips. I'd like homemade chips to go with their tasty salsa. But, that said, the food more than makes up for this minor drawback.

Really? A good Mexican restaurant way out in the 'burbs? Yes, really. I must say... I am very skeptical when anyone tells me that they've found a good Mexican food place. The last time I went to a Mexican food restaurant I suffered from food poisoning for 3 days. (And I am an avid Mexican food lover!) I joined a friend for lunch today and we were quickly greeted and seated right away. The waiter asked if we have ever eaten there before and I answered no. I asked him what they were known for and he pointed to the carne en su jugo dish on the lunch menu. WOW is all I gotta say. Very good and spicy. It's refreshing to find a Mexican food restaurant that isn't a traditional combination plate with boring, Americanized tacos and burritos. This is AUTHENTIC Mexican food. You can tell this is what the owners grew up eating, authentic home-cooked meals. I will definitely be back! I hear they have an awesome tequila tasting tour... mmmm....

Horrible food. We had chicken chimi and rice and beans. The beans were watered down and the rice was old and crunchy..actually got stuck in my teeth. My husbands chimi was okay till he almost choked on a bone. It was our first and last time going there!! Save yourself the trouble and go somewhere else.

Let's just say when my husband and I crave Mexican food we like to imagine finding a place as compatible to AZ, TX, and Cali Mexican cuisine, let's just say this was nothing close to anything we've had in any of those states. My husband being of Mexican-American decent and both of us living in AZ for almost 10yrs, the amount of beans and rice were so skimpy you could swipe your fork over once and the only thing left was the plate and your main entree. We both ordered from the Tex-Mex menu and his chimichanga was burnt leaving only the inside to be edible. I ordered the enchilada, tamale, and taco; everything bland but one of the best tamales I have ever had. I noticed a lot of gringos, then again it is in Blue Springs they looked ecstatic little did they know the price is definitely not worth the amount of food your getting. The decor looks upscale which is far from what's offered on the menu, but the service was excellent. I would suggest going to the barrio at least your getting quality authentic Mexican food, just ignore the area haha.

This place was terrific! Excellent food and service. The Map on your Yelp application is wrong! The location is on the NORTH SIDE of I-40. (There is a strip club at the location on the south side of I-40 on Yelp/GoogleMap's current directions.)

We ate here on a Sunday afternoon. It was a pleasant experience. The staff was professional and friendly and the atmosphere was nice. We ordered guacamole along with our complimentary chips and salsa. The salsa and the homemade guacamole were very good. I had steak fajitas and my husband had the combination ones....steak, chicken, shrimp and chorizo. Both came with (really delicious) rice, (really delicious) refried beans, a dab of guac, sour cream, pico de gallo and corn tortillas. I prefer flour tortillas, but everything was so flavorful and well-seasoned it was no big deal. The steak in mine was a bit on the tough side and kind of skimpy...heavy on onions and bell pepper....but, it all tasted really good and I was satisfied and full when I was through. Everything I had was super tasty! The small imperfections will not keep me from going back and trying other items on the menu....I look forward to it.

I drove my midtown-ass out to Blue Springs on the recommendation of a colleague who touted this as the "best Mexican food she'd ever had in the States". She said the tacos reminded her of the ones she'd eaten from street vendors in the actual state of Jalisco. I can say that while it fell a little short of such high praise, the food was excellent and authentic. It's worth the trek for the tacos, and my friend's burrito had equally favorable reviews. We both decided we'd make the drive out again.

The first time I visited Real Jalisco I was with my family and we were looking for a place to eat very last minute, on St. Patrick's Day. After discovering virtually every restaurant was already packed we drove by Real Jalisco and found the parking lot was almost empty. We filed in, quickly got seated and had the menu given to us, with none of us knowing what we were going to order. Our waiter, and co-owner of the restaurant (who is originally from Jalisco, hence the name) came over and saw we were confused about what to try. He graciously offered his own suggestions based off of a few options we filled in for him (kind of meat, level of spiciness), and confidently informed us that he knew we would be pleased. And how! The meal was utterly fantastic, I had the chicken tacos callejeros and was floored by the flavor packed into such a small item (or five items, rather), not to mention the durability of the freshly made tortillas. I have been back multiple times since then, and have recommended it to all of my friends. Who knew that one of the best Mexican restaurants in the metro would end up in Blue Springs?

Love this place! Got a groupon months ago and boy am I glad I bought it. This place is one of my favorite Mexican food restaurant In town. The flavors are wonderful. Tacos awesome; not your typical tex-mex taco. Soft corn tortillas grilled with steak or chicken. Delicious paired with soupy beans and sauces. You will love just about everything on the menu!

We just tried out the location in Kansas City North on Friday - after a horrible experience at Latin Bistro we ended up walking out and decided to give Real Jalisco a try. Boy - what a treat! The staff was amazing, recommending dishes on the menu they thought we would like based on our tastes, great service, super friendly people and fabulous margaritas. My DH was a bit disappointed they didn't have Dos XX on draft, but he was super happy with the wonderful margaritas, so it all worked out. We are now huge fans and so happy to have a wonderful mexican restaurant close to home :) If you live up North, give this place a try - you won't be disappointed. It is located right next to Leo's Pizza on Englewood.

I'll keep it real. The first time I went here I had no idea it was authentic cuisine. I ordered the enchiladas and had no idea how to eat them because they didn't look like my usual TexMex enchiladas. What a dumb dumb! Since that first experience, I have broadened my horizons in the ways of food. This place is (in lack of better definition), da bomb! I try something different every time I am here and it is always tasty and fresh. The service here is A++ and the food is worth every penny!

This restaurant is absolutely wonderful! I originally saw this restaurant as one of the ones visited on Check Please hosted by Doug Frost on PBS. The person who reviewed it said such good things, that we went and checked it out. This is not for your tex-mex type of food. If you want to go for authentic Mexican food then this is a great spot. Blue Springs is home to the original location and was started by two brothers. I love going to family owned restaurants as well. We always get the queso fundido (definitely get it with chorizo!) and it comes with either the tomatillo or garlic sauce on top. Both are winners. The Real Jalisco margarita is the best margarita I have ever had! Each entrée that I have had is wonderful. I like being adventurous and trying new foods. Favorite dishes are: Puerco Adobado (the achitote spice is great), Mariposa Jalisco (Oaxaca cheese!), Camarones Mariachi (I asked them to add some chipotle to give it some heat) and Steak Real Jalisco.

Not a five star restaurant. Whenever I see rave reviews like those posted here for Real Jalisco I am curious. I want to experience the food that is causing this level of excitement. I will admit that I went into Real Jalisco looking to find something wrong. With as much as they have going for them, it wasn't difficult to find what was wrong. With a name as lack luster as Real Jalisco I was expecting the experience and food to be more authentic. I have been to the state of Jalisco in Mexico, and this doesn't measure up. Food: Delicious There is no salt or pepper on any table. I noticed because the chips were completely unsalted. I ordered the Mariposa Jalisco and my wife ordered the Chile Garada (sp?). Many people here will tell you that you can order chile rellanos. This is not true, they don't sell chile rellanos. Instead they have a walnut-cranberry sauce covering a poblano filled with steak. It is very good and is worth ordering. However, they don't seed the pepper. You will eat a LOT of seeds. This also causes some of the dish to be spicy. I ordered the Mariposa as a steak dish and was glad I did. They used skirt steak cut very thin and grilled it to a charred perfection. The only issue I had was that it was not easy to eat. My wife and I shared a sopapilla. They were spongy and didn't come with enough honey or chocolate. Service: Kind, but difficult There are many servers and bussing staff and they are always moving. Unlike at many establishments where the staff hides in the kitchen, the people at Real Jalisco are available. Every interaction was kind and helpful. But...many of people on staff are native Spanish speakers and English is not spoken with confidence. I don't mind when there is an effort, but I didn't see it tonight. One gentleman had a scared look on his face when trying to ask my pop order. The fear led to very quick interactions and made it difficult to ask for additional items or ask questions. Overall: Not impressed I might eat there again, but it would have to be because I was craving the Chile Garada. By far the most redeeming quality was the chiles. The rest of the meal was uninspiring and I never felt like I left Blue Springs. Worth a try if you love every kind of Mexican food, but for those who are more discerning it will leave you wanting.

My wife and I live in Sedalia and travel occasionally into the city to shop or attend some event. Not very often, so when we do we hope to rustle up a nice meal while we're there. So before we left I began looking at the reviews for restaurants in Blue Springs and noticed the Real Jalisco received several high reviews and they all seemed to be consistent in their appraisal. So we decided to give Real Jalisco a try, and I can't tell you how happy we were that we did. It was one of the very best mexican meals that we have ever eaten. One thing you'll notice about the menu is you will not see the usual litany of Tex Mex food that you normally see. There are no fajitas, no cheese enchiladas, or chile rellenos... none of the Tex Mex variety that seems to be the staple of any current mexican food restaurant. Instead you'll see menu items for mexican dishes of which you've never seen. My wife and I opted for a marinated flank steak covered with oaxaca cheese and grilled onions and peppers under a roasted tomatillo sauce, and it was absolutely delicious. I would consider it a mild dish although it popped with flavor. It was served with soup style beans in a small bowl, spanish rice, homemade corn tortillas and a side of sour cream, guacamole, and a tomato-onion-cilantro relish. The steak was beefy and flavorful without being overly chewy and the grilled tomatillo sauce with grilled onions and peppers just burst in your mouth with a delicious citrus like flavor that went perfectly with the steak. The spanish rice was some of the best that we had ever eaten and the soup style pinto beans were serviceable if not outstanding. The homemade corn tortillas were divine and a perfect complement to the entire meal. I would give the meal a 6 out of 5 stars for the meal and the wait service. What I was not impressed with was the decor which seemed to be a vision of someones idea of what a fine mexican restaurant would have looked like on a 1960s movie set. The walls were some kind of stone washed crimson color, the windows had some type of 70s style spanish treatment and the room was somewhat formal and stilted. None of which seemed to go with the piping hot mexican dishes that fairly swam off your plate with color, and burst upon your tongue with a July 4th fireworks extravaganza that you only get an opportunity to experience once a decade. We arrived at the restaurant promptly at noon and were somewhat surprised to see only a handful of patrons scattered through the restaurant, given the excellent review on Yelp. So I would encourage you to ignore the the strip mall location and nondescript grey facade of Real Jalisco and the stuffy over-formal interior that's gone crimson. No, what you'll want to go for is the food. Because at the Real Jalisco the mexican food is piping hot, awash with color, bursting with flavor and it's the Real Deal....

Really great authentic Mexican food! I thought the food was fresh, quality was great and the price was not out of line for what you get. I will go there again, hopefully soon!

The food is delicious. We got what our server (whom I believe is also an owner) recommended and it was delicious. Can't wait to go back and try more things. The special margarita was also delicious and very strong!

Just ate here for the second time and it was as good as the first time. With a nearly packed dining room, our service was great along with our excellent food. I am still shocked that the best Mexican restaurant in Kansas City is in BLUE SPRINGS!

Absolutely in love with this place. Having just moved to Missouri from San Diego I have been on the hunt for GOOD mexican food. After seeing a groupon for Real Jalisco and reading other reviews on yelp, thought I would try it out. The staff and service was top notch. Everyone was friendly and quite helpful. Our server went through the menu with us making recommendations. I tried the Mariposa Jalisco on the waiters suggestion and it did not disappoint. The pork was tender and well seasoned and came sliced cactus and onions on top with a spicy yet flavorful tomatillo sauce. The corn tortillas to accompany were warm, soft, and great as well. Then you get to the fried ice cream... YUM! A giant ball of ice cream fried to crispy perfection with cinnamon, caramel, and chocolate to go with it. I highly suggest giving this place a try if you are in the area.

Well I was excited to try this place after reading the reviews and needless to say the other reviews were NOT exaggerated, this place is far and away the best Mexican food I have EVER had. I am typically not a fan of Mexican joints and rarely crave it but an hour after leaving I wanted to go back. The serving staff is incredibly knowledgeable and you truly feel like you are in a high class establishment that would cost 5 times the average amount of Jaliscos. My girlfriend and I got an appetizers, two entrees, two desserts, and split a citrus margarita (no we are not hogs and usually never order appetizers or dessert but I am glad we did). The queso fundito was recommended in a previous review and was everything it was described as. We could not decide between the cheesecake chimichangas or the homemade chocolate corn ice cream so we got both. The chimichanga was like a funnel cake stuffed with cheescake (amazing) and the ice cream was chocolatey goodness without being to rich, and was actually our favorite. So to make a long story short this place is amazing and I demand that everyone try it.

Arguably by far the best Mexican restaurant in Kansas City area. This is family owned and operated. The owners are always on site. This is not only a very nice and attractive venue, but the food is authentic and great. The servers are very helpful. This is not your typical Mexican menu. This is close to me and I have probably been there 15 times. It is always a winner.

I can not say enough good things about this place, but shall try. My Husband and I chose this restaurant for date night after seeing it on our Yelp. We are so glad we did! Upon entering we were greeted and seated promptly by the hostess. A gentleman came over and gave us chips and salsa within a minute and shortly after our waiter brought menus and water with lemon. If given the option, do ask to be seated in Daniels section. He was so knowledgeable of the food and really helped us in deciding. Plus, he was so nice, attentive, and friendly. The food was brought out in less than 15 minutes. This place really knows what they're doing. I don't think I've ever used the word 'impressive' to describe any place or dish, but that's the perfect word for what I had, which was a vegetarian fajita with an extra side of guacamole. The flavors were perfect and everything tasted so fresh. I loved every part of my dish, including the mushrooms that I normally hate! The ONLY thing I would critique is the salsa. While the flavors were there it was a bit too soupy for my taste. We will be recommending this place to anyone that will listen! Seriously, try it.

I'm always raving about this place (see my earlier review) but now I've had another amazing dish that I must recommend. The shrimp enchiladas, where the shrimp are cooked in butter and wine before being wrapped with tomatoes and other goodies, then covered in the most incredible white cream sauce, are NOT TO BE MISSED!! I'm not kidding....order them today! If you're lucky, Daniel will be your server and he makes the entire experience even better.

A very nice surprise in Blue Springs. I came in at around 4pm on a Thursday. The place doesn't have the best atmosphere (decor is a bit cheesy) but it was very clean. My waiter greeted me right away and I sat in a table towards the middle of the restaurant. He brought me chips & salsa right away, and they were good enough. I asked him to direct me to one of the spicier chicken dishes, and he suggested the Pollo Al Carbon (I think that's what it was). I ordered, and my dish was brought out within 10 minutes. The dish was very flavorful and delicious. The perfect amount of moderate spiciness for my taste. It was 11.99, but I got two meals out of it. My check was brought out quickly when I asked. One of my (few) pet peeves is when you ask for a check and it takes 15+ minutes for it to be brought out. The place was not busy when I visited (1 or 2 other diners), but I've had this happen in places that were not busy, too. The service was generally very prompt, and I felt welcomed while there. The place just had a warm atmosphere. I would definitely visit again.

Some friends recommended this place and I have to say I was a little nervous. I'm trying to eat healthy and most Mexican restaurants aren't known for having the healthiest options. Upon entering the restaurant looks like an old Chinese restaurant that was transformed into a Mexican restaurant. It wasn't peak dinner time but there was still a lot of customers. We were seated immediately though and I have to say, the service was remarkable. Not only was our waiter attentive and quick but the other staff filled out water glasses and took empty plates away. Everyone was on their game. Even the food came out super fast. Probably the best service I've had in a very long time. As for the food, the waiter made many recommendations. I chose of them which was a chicken taco dish. I was nervous seeing it came with 4 tacos and figured I would take some home to stay true to my diet. When the food came out I was presently surprised. The 5 tacos were on homemade corn tortillas, not flour. I normally hate corn tortillas too but these were incredible. The tacos were not overstuffed like most places and everything on it was fresh. There was chicken, red onion, guacamole, and cilantro. Perfect portions for a taco. I ate 4 of them which had me stuffed. The fresh ingredients and small portions though meant I only ate about 400-600 calories which was great! The taste was spectacular too. Fresh healthy food always tastes that way and much better to me - this was that! I would highly recommend this place!!

Not good stuff, salsa runny and ketchup tasting. Chips on the stale side. Guac left out and turned brown. Canned chicken in the quesadillas

Queso fundido is so good, even my dad, who eats no fat, no salt, no carbs, no nothing... That guy will eat an entire plate to himself. Service is always excellent. Very friendly staff. Restaurant is clean. Prices are fair. I really should come here more often. Love this place.

What a nice experience! Really surprised by this gem. From the outside its nothing you'd turn the eye at, generic looking Mexican in a small strip mall. But please don't think this! Sadly I thought this all this time and had no clue what was inside! Shame on me. Inside is one of the best Mexican in the area by far! Very attentive and quick service, not to busy at all. Chips brought out instantaneously and were warm. Salsa and Guacamole were both fresh and very authentic! (Guac inside the avocado!) entree was piping hot and had the perfect blend of sweet with the mole sauce and the spicy blend of peppers inside my enchiladas. The chicken was cooked perfect and had a juicy , fulfilling taste to them. Portions were generous and certainly filled us up. And they do a 10 percent off with Yelp! Very reasonable, overlooked place that deserves recognition. Will be back soon to try your varied and authentic menu! Thanks Jalisco.

It's always fun to revisit a favorite place and realize I've never reviewed it on Yelp. I've been to Real Jalisco a number of times since it's close to my mother's house, and every visit has been wonderful. I've had the carnitas, the pork enchiladas, the carne asada tacos and the Mariposa Jalisco, and all have been fantastic. The food is flavorful, the meat is tender and the selection is huge. For those who like the Tex-Mex, they do have a small selection of dishes in that vein, but I encourage everyone to step out of their comfort zone and try something new. The service is attentive, the beer is cold, and the atmosphere is welcoming. Truly my favorite Mexican restaurant in Kansas City.

Full bar with a good selection of import beers as well. Ordered the Pollo con Crema which was fabulous! Served with rice, beans and corn tortillas. Informed waiter that hours on Yelp were incorrect so they could correct. Was pleasantly surprised on how nice the inside was and very clean .

This is one of the best Mexican restraunts in the Kansas City area. Everything I have tried here is really good. I would recommend the two thinly cut pork chops with steamed vegetables or the 5 street tacos! Also you can't go wrong if you get the Tequila Martini. Don't get me wrong the margaritas are very good. However the Tequila Martinis are worth the drive! I highly recommend, my wife and I go here at least twice a month! Very good food and can't beat the drinks!!

I used the reviews of fellow Yelpers to find a really great, new south-of-the-border restaurant while visiting my folks. We just walked in as a party of six and had no trouble getting seated right away. The chips and salsa were delivered promptly and were delicious. When it came time to order I decided to go with the most vegan thing I could find: fajitas. Typically, the vegetables are heavy on onions or green peppers at other places. I can vouch that this is simply not the case at RJ's. I was so impressed with the quality of the produce, the portion size and the veg ratios were perfectly balanced. The guac was really fresh and delicious as well as the rice and beans. My entire family really liked their dishes so I know we will be back every time I visit. I recommend RJ's.

Me and my husband bought a Groupon for here and used it a couple days ago for dinner. This place is the best Mexican food! It tasted so fresh. I ordered the enchiladas and was very surprised by what I received. Pleasantly surprised. It was a little different than normal enchiladas. They were open faced with shredded chicken, lettuce and pico de gallo. The tortillas were softer and soaked in their red sauce. I loved it! My hubby got chicken tacos and he was very pleased with his choice. Our stomachs weren't heavy and bloated feeling like some Mexican restaurants cause. Our waiter was extra attentive and our service was not affected at all by us having a Groupon. I know some places don't treat you as good if you have one, but this place is great! I highly suggest Real Jalisco for fresh and delicious tasting Mexican!

Came here off of good yelp ratings. Being from SoCal, I'm very particular about my Mexican food. This place did not disappoint! Had the carne asada tacos and my husband had the chimichanga....playing it safe. When the waiter found out it was our first time, he brought out a couple of samples of other meats and encouraged us to allow him to show us some really great menu items in our next trip. We were so impressed with the flavor and service. We will definitely be back!

I went here a few weeks ago to spend a little one on one time with my mom. We both wanted Mexican food, but our favorite place in Blue Springs (El Maguey) had recently gone out of business. The search for something that was at least comparable shortly ensued and we ended up here. The restaurant was very nice for a Mexican food. The waiters were perfectly polite although they had a hard time understanding what I was ordering because, even though they have a vegetarian menu, it's pretty limited. I ordered a virgin raspberry margarita and it was so delicious! I had three bean tacos, which isn't on the menu but it really should be. I wasn't impressed with the tacos because they're like taco bell grade. My mom had an enchilada though that she said was the best she'd ever had. The biggest thing that bothered me was that, when I ordered, the waiter was confused. First he didn't understand "virgin margarita", and I had to explain it. Secondly, it really irks me when people don't understand the concept of bean tacos. I'm a vegetarian, that doesn't mean I want every single option to be covered in vegetables. A lot of folks don't realize that a vast majority of vegetarians choose that lifestyle because they hate the idea of eating animals, it isn't always for health reasons. I want beans and rice. Give me something delicious that I'm probably going to regret later! That being said, if they add bean tacos and change the quality of them, I'll definitely frequent their restaurant more :-)

My wife and I love going here to eat. Please understand that RJ is NOT tex-mex! The recipes this establishment uses are from their grandmothers, who grew up in the State of Jalisco. The service is fast and friendly and I can't say enough about the variety of dishes and the amazing flavors. I had a wonderful meal there this past Saturday... The appetizer was six large shrimp in a delicious heat-filled tomato based sauce with diced onions, diced avocado, and LOTS of yummy cilantro! It was too hot for Tishie, but that left more of this amazing dish for me to savor. My main dish was a bed of beef and pepper and onions covered with large green peppers that had been broiled and spread over the beef. This was covered with an amazing sweet walnut sauce and diced, dried cranberries. The waitress was concerned that it might have too much heat for me, but, being a pepperhead, I assured her that it would be fine to not change the heat level for me. The sweet walnut sauce took much of the heat from the beef away.

There had been a tornado within 10 miles of the restaurant. The restaurant was down to 1 waiter, who I didn't feel was particular attentive. We had to ask for anything we wanted. The waiter was friendly, and when we asked him, he would eventually bring what we asked for. My wife and I ordered taco salads. She had the chicken which looked good and came with plenty of meat. I had had a sloppy joe for lunch. The meat of the Real Jalisco was the same consistency as a sloppy joe ground beef, and my sloppy joe at lunch tasted much better. There was not a lot of meat in the taco salad, either. Others had other menu items at our table. Frankly, nothing looked particularly delicious. We eat at Mexican restaurants fairly often in a variety of cities. Real Jalisco, at least on our one visits, was definitely not high on the list. I'm glad for anyone who likes it. The restaurant has a predominance of chicken dishes on the menu. Maybe their chicken dishes are outstanding.

I'm a regular at Real Jalisco. They are literally right around the corner. I experienced my first bad meal tonight and I'm disappointed. Plan to call tomorrow and return it and get my money back. I suppose every restaurant has a bad night but they weren't really that crowded. I've gotten excellence when the place was packed. Again I'm just disappointed.

I would love to give Real Jalisco 5 stars, cause it is now one of my faves. I eat a truck load (there, I kept it clean this time) of Mexican food. I like to alternate my locations. I love chile rellenos. I love them at every restaurant, so I decided to try the number 40 on the Tex-Mex side of the menu. I also ordered the Flautita appetizer, and flan for dessert. We walked in, and it was charming. The napkins were folded in a fan shape. We were promptly seated. The menu took awhile. I decided on the number 40. It was a chile relleno, enchilada and taco. We were given salsa, which I loved. I didn't have enough of it. I thought they should bottle it. It's light, mild and fantastic. They brought out the flautitos, beautifully presented. Chef Ramsey would've loved this. Guacamole in the center. Yeah baby! They brought out the entree. I was crushed...hear the crushing music right now). What the eff was that on the chile relleno? I almost sent it back. It was a fried egg, thick, laying on the pepper, instead of battered. But I wasn't sure, so, dumb me, I bit into it. Highly alllergic to eggs that aren't processed in a cake or bread. Damn damn damn. I quickly removed it very lady like from my mouth and washed my mouth out with water. As I write this review, there is a longing itch at my mouth. The taco and enchilada was delicious. Thank goodness I didn't just order the relleno, which sometimes I do.. I didn't see it listed in the egg items, but they really should...Ugh, chile relleno never again at Real Jaliscos. Tacos and enchiladas for me there. The rest of the meal was certainly 5 stars. The flan was gorgeous, flawless. I will eat there again, it is wonderful. I learned not to order the number 40. It was a bit slow getting the check. But that's okay.Real Jalisco, minus one glitch, is real good.

Our favorite. Not your standard Mexican fare. Most of the menu is authentic Mexican food. Those not used to it can still order Tex Mex, but there is no need. This is the freshest, best tasting food in the Kansas City metro area. Nice facility with outstanding customer service. Quality food and quality people keep us coming back.

Worse fajitas we ever ate. No flavor till I put some salt on it then I had salt flavor. Big whoop. Sent them back. Salsa might as well be catsup. Again no flavor. Won't be back.

Is it possible that my new favorite mexican place is in Blue Springs!? This means my favorite thai place and mexican place are both in the opposite direction I'd normally travel for good food. The burbs seem to have it going on. I hate seeing anything with "authentic" thrown around and get pissed when I hear that word spoken about tex mess. This isn't tex mex which means most midwest folks will hate it. I got the Mariposa Jalisco with the Queso Fundido for an appetizer. Typically I'd write a weird review where I'd take about something totally unrelated to the actual place but I was really taken aback on how good the food is. This isn't tex mex. This is based on real authentic mexican and blows away all the places on Southwest Blvd.

I ordered $50 worth of food to the wrong location over 40 minutes away. It was 100% my fault. When I got to the Blue Springs location they informed me. Instead of being rude and upset like I would have been if I were them, they were extremely nice and courteous about it and they made my huge order in 10 minutes - TL:DR I messed up $50 worth of food (my fault) and the Blue Springs location went above and beyond to be awesome! I cannot recommend this location enough.

I didn't expect this in Blue Springs! This is my Dad and his Lady's favorite Mexican food spot. I think what I enjoyed the most was the service. The wait staff here is EXCELLENT. They are friendly, out going, patient, attentive, and informative. The ambiance is what you would expect at a strip mall. You will not be blown away by its charming decor but the place is very clean and tidy. On several occasions we have visited the temperature of the place was a bit too hot for everyone in our party. The food is good. The beans and rice are typical, nothing too exciting. Their Margaritas are crazy good. I've had flautas, steak mariposa, and a chicken dish that I forget the name of. It was pretty good, with a creamy spicy sauce, peppers and onions. I can say that I haven't had anything that I didn't like. But I haven't felt compelled to slap my momma, or jump up and do a cartwheel. My Dad really really loves this place. We have been here several times and have always had a constant experience. I would say that I would rather dine here than at Manny's or Dos Reales. To me, Real Jalisco is nice, but I am not ready to profess my love.

We just stopped in today. We have always wondered what it was like since we live so close, and we were not disappointed! Our server was Daniel. He made great suggestions and we both loved everything. We had queso fundido, highly recommend this appetizer. So delicious! For our entrees per Daniel's suggestions we had pollo marinado a la parilla! We thought it was real good, the other dish was tacos callejeros pollo! I think it was my fave of the two, but both were delicious! Definitely coming back! Thanks!

Mexican Cuisine
